* Genetic tools in the study of powdery mildews with special regard to sequencing methods

* How to film germinating powdery mildew conidia?
* light microscopy of the morphology of powdery mildew conidia, conidiophores, hyphal appressoria, haustoria, chasmothecia, and asci and ascospores
* conidial germination tests on different substrates
* ascospore viability tests using fluorescence microscopy
* rehydration of powdery mildew herbarium specimens for morphological studies
* DNA extraction from low quantities of fresh and herbarium powdery mildew materials
* PCR amplification methods for a number of loci in powdery mildews
* quantification of the powdery mildew infection levels using classical and qPCR methods

* Participants are requested to introduce themselves using maximum two .ppt slides to show where they come from, what is the topic of their MSc or PhD or postdoc research work, and any additional information they would like to share with other participants during the introductions.

** Hands-on training activities will be performed in groups of 3 to 5 participants
